Frequently Asked Questions
How Does the Flame Rotate?
Three air inlets opposing each other are created into the sides of a metal ring. A glass chimney with a tall narrow opening protects against extinguishing the flame from sudden drafts. The surrounding air is drawn inward through the air inlets by the flame's heat.
What Are the Dimensions of the Candle Holder?
Dimensions are 3.5" (9 cm) base diameter, 9.25" (23.5cm) tall (5.5 cm base, 18cm chimney)
Do You Ship Internationally? What Are Your Shipping Costs?
Yes, we ship to almost all countries. To calculate shipping costs for your location, please use our shipping cost calculator.
Is Replacing the Candle Easy?
Yes, replacing the candle is easy. By simply removing the glass chimmeny, you can replace the expired candle with a new one.
What Comes With My Package?
Your package will come with many parts. For a full list of components included in our packages, click here
Does It Require Batteries?
No, batteries are NOT required. Rotation of the flame is natural by design.
Is There a Guarantee?
Yes, your candle holder is guaranteed to be free from manufacturing defects for 3 years.
How Long Does a Tea Light Candle Last?
Tea light candles generally burn up to 4 hours, where as oil lamp cartridges burn up to twice as long by comparison.
If I Have Children, Can They Burn Themselves on Hot Glass?
You cannot burn yourself on The LIVING FLAME™ unless you hold your skin against the glass cover for
some seconds. Fortunately, mother nature has given us reflexes which ensures against harm. Nonetheless,
curious fingers may end up touching the hot glass, which would not be a pleasant experience. Fortunately,
children, once they understand that the glass gets hot, will not touch the glass for a second time. If you
are using The LIVING FLAME™ around children, then it would be best to use our
Safety Glass Cylinder.
The cylinder is attractive as well and doubles the number of reflected flames visible in the glass, thus providing a fascinating effect.
Can I Order Bulk For a Wedding or Restaurant?
Yes, for a quotes on special bulk orders, please contact us.
Can I Use My Own Tea Light Candles?
We do not recommend this. Why? Candles come in all sorts of waxes and wick lengths and so
it is almost impossible to ensure that the candle burns propertly unless you use GALLUS™
light candles, which are tested and specially developed for use in The LIVING FLAME™.
Can I Use the Candle Holder Outside?
Yes. A light breeze will not easily extinguish the flame so candlelight fans will always experience the calm, serene effect of a gently rotating tea light candle flame. This unique tea light product may be placed anywhere inside or outside on a countertop, table, or patio furniture. They provide an interesting conversation piece and brighten any party or social gathering.
What's the Difference Between The Candle Version and Oil Lamp Version?
Our candle versions are equipped to use LIVING FLAME™ tea light candles, with our oil lamp version designed
to use specially designed oil lamp cartridges which burn up to 8 hours.
I've properly assembled The LIVING FLAME™ candle holder, but the flame of the candle is not rotating or only sporadically rotating. What do I do?
Make sure that the air inlets (4') in the metal ring (4) are not obstructed. Obstruction can be caused by The LIVING FLAME™ candle holder being placed near another object or wall or from use of a tealight that is too tall and thus at least partially closes the inlets.. Move The LIVING FLAME™ away from the wall or use a tealight of the appropriate height (about 3/4"). Otherwise, it is possible that the tealight is made of wax of inferior quality or, most likely, the wick of the tealight candle has moved off center. In the latter case, to correct, blow out the candle and reposition the wick.
In any case, please note that using tealights designed for use in The LIVING FLAME™ will avoid this problem.
It is sometimes difficult to remove the tealight candle from the holder. What is wrong?
If you move the candle holder after the wax has melted, wax can spill over between the aluminum cup of the
tealight and the holder. This tends to make it difficult to remove after the tealight has burned out and you
need to replace it. To avoid this, avoid moving The LIVING FLAME™ candle holder after it is lit. If
this cannot be prevented, then consider removing the spent tealight under hot water. This will melt the
wax and make it easier to remove.
How do I safely put out the flame of my LIVING FLAME™ candle holder?
You may blow the flame out by blowing in the small opening at the top of the glass cover (2). Or, you may cover the opening for a few seconds with a non-flamable surface. This will deprive The LIVING FLAME™ of oxygen and cause the flame to go out. A porcelain thimble, our
order no. 0001GL005-002, is available on our website and is probably the best way to extinguish the flame. DO NOT FIRST ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE CHIMNEY PRIOR TO BLOWING OUT THE FLAME because the chimney gets hot during use!
My glass chimney tends to get black with soot after multiple uses. How can I prevent this?
Some soot buildup over time is unavoidable. However, if you use LIVING FLAME™ candles, and you trim the wick to about 5mm or 1/4" in length when it gets too long, you can elimnate any soot production. In any case, you should clean your candle holder from time to time.
A special LIVING FLAME™ chimney cleaning brush comes with your LIVING FLAME™ candle holder and serves for removing dirt which wasn't cleaned off by the dish washer.
If you've lost yours and need to order a replacement, you can order here (order no. GL005-001).
How do I best clean my LIVING FLAME™?
For cleaning, remove the glass chimney (2), and the metal ring (4) (i.e., the metal and glass subassembly (13), from the wooden base (3). Clean
the wooden base with a damp cloth or with a furniture polish. Do not place in a dishwasher or soak in water. Only after it has completely cooled, you may clean the glass chimney in a dishwasher or using soap and water, drying by hand. Use the brush included in your box to clean the neck of the glass
chimney first, using window cleaner, and then place in dishwasher. As for the metal receptacle (6) which encloses the tealight
candle (12), only clean by hand rinsing with hot water and drying thoroughly. Note that the tealight can be forced out of its receptacle (6) by, using a finger, pressing on the penny (8) which you should have inserted earlier, from below.
Use and Care Tips For Maximum Enjoyment
Do not block the inlet openings (4'). Do not place this against a wall or other obstruction.
The ideal tealight for this product is one which is 3/4 " high, and 1.5" in diameter. Use only high quality tealights to minimize soot building up in the glass chimney. Beeswax tealights work well. LIVING FLAME™ tealights are specifically designed for use in your LIVING FLAME™ candle holder. See figure 5 for an illustration of a suitable tealight.
If you wish to prevent wax from dripping into the wooden base through the candle removal hole in the bottom of the stainless steel cup that holds the candle, simply place a penny or other small coin in the central recess prior to placing the candle in the cup.
Avoid rapid side-to-side movement when moving the candle holder after the wax has melted, because doing so can cause wax spillage which will require cleaning the candle holder (of course, this is the case with any candle).
