In Memory Of William Toler
Would WIlliam Toler be proud of his Eulogy? You better believe he would. William was a man among men. He may have only been waist high to us while sitting in his jazzy, but he felt seven feet tall. WIlliam would have been a tall man had it not been for the curvature of his spine. He was proud of his time on earth. As a young boy, William's life expectancy was 18 years. He beat the odds. He lived 44 years beyond that age. He was a determined man. His disabilities, he would not let them stand in his way to live life to the fullest. Don't ever say he was handicapped. He would let you know that he was not handicapped, he was handicapable. He was capable of doing anything you or I could do, it just had to be done a different way. William fished and hunted for many years. I remember shortly after Lisa and Neil were married, he called my house. Lisa answered the phone and I heard her say, "Are you ok, I'll be there in a few minutes." When she hung up, I asked her if everything was alright. SHe said, yes, Daddy just killed a deer and wants me to come help him drag it out of the woods and dress it. He didn't let anything stop him from enjoying life. William was a loving man. He loved his family. He loved his friends. (This was quite obvious by the numbers of people who showed up to pay their last respects)Once you met William, you never forgot him and it wasn't bedasue of his physical appearance, it was because of his joyful spirit. He left an impression on everyone he met. WIlliam was in his physical body for 62 1/2 years. All those years he faced the daily challenges of cruthches, Wheel chairs, braces on his legs and torso, but Friday evening, Feb.8, 2008 WIlliam threw all of this down when he entered his heavinly body. And this short statue of a man finally stood seven feet tall for the first time. William you are gone but you will never be forgotten.
