| Anna Joseph ('Baby'/'Ammachy') passed away in her sleep in the early morning hours of 14 September 2009. Her daughters had been by her bedside daily over the past two weeks. On the 13th of September, they prayed together around her bedside and bid her goodnight. After a strong showing of 91 years with no failing heart, strong internal organs, and the best possible constitution, she had decided it was time to bid adieu to this world, and enter the Lord's presence. |

What a sad loss. I know that there is nothing that anyone can say or do to ease the pain. Hopefully time will aid in that.
Take comfort in God's word the Bible where he promises that there will be a resurrection of the dead (John 5:28, 29. Also, Isaiah 26:19 tells us that the righteous ones will possess the earth.
I will pray for your family.

I was sorry to learn from Preeti of ammachi’s passing. We lived next door to the Josephs at CCC Vellore in the 1970s when I was little. But I also have more recent memories of visiting her when I worked in Bangalore during the 1990s. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her recount amusing “war stories” from her days as a teacher! She clearly enriched many lives, and I am so glad I could re-connect with her as an adult. I know she will be missed by many. May her soul rest in peace.

What a lovely, interesting and socially useful life Anna Joseph led. This is a remarkable tribute to a woman who gave much to her own society and to many others. My first memories of Mrs. Joseph are of her teaching us English and taking charge of the library at our school in the 1970s. If I close my eyes I can still bring up the image of Mrs. Joseph - a graceful person dressed in beautiful cotton saris waiting for the school bus in front of the Christian Counselling Centre in Sinathapurarm or in our class room emphasizing a point with her delicate hands.

She had a gentle but firm way of dealing with us that had a greater impact than any of the hollering or yelling we got from some of some of our other teachers. Another incident was when Johnny was caught drawing naughty cartoons during class and marched to the principal’s office. He was sure he was in big trouble. Babykochamma and Joseph Achen had taught my late husband, Johnnykutty, at Alwaye College prior to us joining them in Ethiopia during the fifties and early 60’s. Our friendship grew through the Sunday, Holy Qurbanas led by Joseph Achen in Addis Ababa, one of the few reminders of the life we had left behind in Kerala.
