Obituary
BRADELY ALDEN SPENCER
12/4/1923-2/24/2010
Bradley Alden Spencer went to be with the Lord on 24 February 2010. Born on December 4, 1923 to Archie and Hazel Spencer in Greenwich, Connecticut, he was the older brother to Ken and Norm. He spent most of his younger years in the Rye, NY area until he enlisted in the Marines in 1942. Brad served in the Pacific Campaign in places like Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal, later in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam, retiring in September 1967 as a Marine Master Sergeant. He married Elizabeth (Bette) Jane Reilly in 1945 and enjoyed 48 years together before she passed away in 1993. Brad was well known throughout the years as an amateur artist with an emphasis on water color landscapes. In his later years his interests turned to rubber stamping and helping with the Military Outreach Ministry (MOM), an organization serving young Marine families. These later years also found him with a renewed interest and commitment to his Lord Jesus. He regularly attended the Grace Presbyterian Church in Temecula.
Brad is survived by his sister-in-laws Reba Spencer of N Syracuse, N.Y. and Sally Spencer of Derry, N.H.; by five adult children, Wayne and Nancy Spencer of Fallbrook CA, Don Spencer of Federal Way, WA, Keith and Janie Spencer of Missoula, MT, Peggy and Rob Harris of San Diego, CA, Jim and Denise Spencer of Springfield VA and by 12 grandchildren and 4 great grand-children. Another member of the Greatest Generation has packed his sea bag, saluted smartly and left the world a better place for us. He fought the good fight, has run the race and now wears the crown of glory. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on 6 March 2010 at 10:30 am at Grace Presbyterian Church, 31143 Nicolas Rd. Temecula CA. Since his favorite memories were of his time in Hawaii, Hawaiian dress is encouraged at the memorial service. A family only graveside dedication will follow at the Riverside National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his name to: Military Outreach Ministry, PO Box 9000-906, Camp Pendleton, CA 92051, 760-763-7394. or to; Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A C Skinner Pkwy, Ste 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 |

Wayne, Nancy, Jason, Mark and Kat,
As you close out Brad's life, I am praying for each one of you. Our family was so blessed to have been able to meet Brad and spend some great memories of our own with him. Ryan, Case and Drew-definitely have memories as they have precious scrapbooks to look at. HIs time and patience with them was amazing. I love having the memories of his stories he told the boys and his great smile. I know he has blessed so many in his life. What a blessing to have ...

Such a sad day. I have such good memories of your warm home. I was there for many sit down dinners and holiday meals, always treated like family. Words fail me now, I can't think of how to put it that I always respected Brad and thought of him as the best.

Most of the time you can tell what type of father he was by knowing his children. Wayne is truley a reflection of a loving strong and caring father. I was bless to have known Brad and especially having his son Wayne as a true friend in the Lord.

We had known Brad and Betty since 1969, meeting through Jim, their yougest and Allen , our oldest. Many wonderful memories of Brad working with the boys on the school campus to make improvements..he taught them a lot. Both he and Betty taught me much about Arts and Crafts..while we did many craft shows together through the years..many early morning set ups..even in a rain storm...munching on the famous Apple Cake...both of them with a smile for everyone.
Brad helped me with a project at Camp P...

Such a dear man who was brave enough to join a bunch of crazy women for Stampin-up classes. How fun he was.

Dear Keith and family, so sorry to hear of your loss, it's a hard cross to bear, but somehow we get thru it. Our only consolation is your Dad is in a wonderful place where he is happy and comfortable and will be well cared for by our Lord. God bless you and your family. I will try to make the services, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Wayne, Don, Keith, Peggy and Jim,
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief. You all know how much I loved your mom and dad and I considered them my "other" parents. Your dad used to give me hell as if I were one of his kids. That was very special to me as I know it was one of his ways of loving us all. He will be missed. Semper Fi Dad. Fair winds and a following sea.
