In Memory Of Christopher (Chris) James Roy
Survived By: Father: James R Roy Mother: Joyce Roy Brother: Richard Roy Maternal Grandmother: Martha Jones Paternal Grandmother: Betty Roy Paternal Grandfather: George Roy Maternal Aunt: Shirley Vaughn Maternal Uncle: Howard Johnson Paternal Aunts: Betty Jane Edwards, Barbara Franks, Doris Ann Sajpel Paternal Uncle; George Roy, Jr.

Christopher James Roy died in the Line of Duty on November 28, 2005, enroute to an emergency call. Chris, also known as Ol' Roy by his closest friends, lived his entire life in Calera Alabama. He was a young man devoted to living his life to it's fullest, helping his neighbor, and by honoring his word. Chris modeled himself after his heroes, people whom he admired, that showed strength and integrity in their actions, not their word's.

Chris was a man who would do what he said and said what he believed. He aspired to follow in his Grandfather's footsteps and lead the City of Calera in its prosperous future. Although his life was cut short, he left an imprint in the hearts of hundreds of people. He accomplished more in his 25 years than many people accomplish in a lifetime. Chris enjoyed making people feel good, be it through his genuine smile, a pat on the back or a firm handshake.

He shared his time willingly by helping those that needed help. Chris leaves behind, his parents James & Joyce Roy, brother Richard Roy, grandparents George & Betty Roy and Max & Martha Jones and joins his grandfather Herman Johnson in the eternal life.

I was traveling South on I65 and saw the sign for Chris' Memorial Highway. I immediately Googled him to find out info. I did not know Chris, but as a fellow firefighter from Lexington, KY FD. my heart goes out to his family, friends and Department. We have had several LODD in our department, and its hard for the family and community. This was another unfortunate example of how dangerous our profession is, and great People die trying to help strangers.

I came accross Chris's book while visiting anothers and was touched by his beautiful smile! He would be the same age as my son is now. I can't imagine the pain his parents (family) went through. I lost my father when I was 25 and to this day the pain is still their. His birthday is November 23rd and every 7 years falls on Thanksgiving. The holidays are the hardest. He looks like he was a very happy content young man with a contagious smile! May you rest in peace.

I remember the first day of EMT class in Thorsby, we were asked why we wanted to do this job. Chris' answer was he had been setting his front yard on fire since he was a little boy, and practicing putting it out. THe idea that stuck in my head was of a 5yr old Chris standing out there with the water hose trying desperately to save his front lawn. I doubt he knew the are of a controlled burn at the time. This job was his life and his dream. I'm so very happy for him that he got to follow his drea...» read more

We were traveling on this highway this past week going to and from Gulf Shores, and I was just curious about him, so I came home and typed it up. Seems like a very sad situation. Looked to be a very nice young man.

If roses grow in Heaven Lord please pick a bunch for me, place them in my sons arms and tell him they’re from me. Tell him that I love him and miss him very much, and when he turns to smile, place a kiss upon his cheek and hold him for awhile. Remembering him is easy, I do it every day but there's an ache within my heart that will never go away.

"In The Line of Duty." Those are words that people really need to think about. Everytime an Officer walks out of his home to go to work, he doesn't know if he will be coming home or not. Do they get the respect that they really deserve? NO!!! These Officers need a loving & understanding wife that supports him & his job. These Officers take their jobs seriously, well the good ones do. "To Serve & To Protect." Did he do his job? YES!!! This man upheld his oathe. How do I know? I'm a mother of a P...» read more

His life will live on in the countless lives he did touch during his lifetime,I pray for you that God keep you in his perfect peace till you see your son again face to face I'm sure he'll run and give you a big hug and thank God for giving to him such wonderful parents that taught him how to care for others above himself His sacrifice will not be forgotten Take Care

From Denise Foster
9 Jul 2010 – Denise Foster sent this sympathy ecard and wrote:
To Christopher's mom. I didn't know your son but go online for Kelsey Briggs, as I know her aunt. I saw your sons memorial and was just touched! His smile just brightens the page. I can imagine how deep your loss is and the pain you still feel. I lost my dad and it has been 22 years and the pain is like yesterday. Every holiday, birthday reminds me of him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May he be at peace in heaven.
