Ruler of My Rome
by Daniel F. Impink Jr.
I look back on the days before you went away. You had a gift of joy that only you could employ. I feel as though I'm blessed to be your baby boy. The way you laughed, the times you cried. The way you hated when I lied. The way you smiled, new things you showed me, Are all now just a memory.
To any normal child looking at these things, They see just a man, But I see a King, The Ruler of my Rome, Every place that I called home. You ruled the palace in my heart, A love that will never part.
And all those things that are true to me, The things that I call memories, Are beaten by your love for me. And now I sit here looking back at all you did, And I know that I truly am blessed, Because I am your kid.
To any normal child looking at these things, They see just a man, But I see a King, The Ruler of my Rome, Every place that I called home. You ruled the palace in my heart, A love that will never part.
