In Memory Of David Adewunmi ADELUGBA

Pa David Adewumi Adelugba was born on July 1, 1923 to late Mrs. Esther Dada Adelugba & Mr. Samuel Jegede Adelugba Fagbemi (Baba Egbe of St. Andrews Anglican Church, Araromi) in Odo-Oro, in the present Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Pa Adelugba started his early life without a formal education but he taught himself how to read and write. Though he never spent a day in the classroom, he was always reading the Holy Bible, Gboungbohun (Yoruba newspaper), and Akede (the Yoruba version of the Jehovah Witness’s publication called Watch Tower / Awake). He was a good listener and captivated the attention of the community and the Jehovah Witness.

He later traveled to Oka Akoko, Ondo State selling clothes as an apprentice (nicknamed: Osomaalo) under the leadership of late Chief George Apara.

Upon his return to Odo–Oro, he started his own clothing business which he supplemented with part-time farming. He also entered into a joint cocoa produce trading business with his immediate brother, late Francis Ilesanmi Adelugba. Upon the sudden death of his brother, he continued the cocoa produce trading business. He was a very successful produce merchant.

He loved, served and obeyed the Lord to the core. He came to the Holy Apostolic Church, Asin as a young man. He found a renewed faith in Christ in this community. He made this community his home and vowed never to depart from the Lord. His love for God was also a reflection of his affection, devotion and absolute dedication to the community and his family throughout his life time.

Pa Adelugba was quite fashionable, probably, he was influenced by his early induction into the fashion business. To so many of us who appreciate fashion, he was known as Aguntasoolo. He was a very successful businessman.

He was a very loving, compassionate and kind person. He had a passionate quest for education. He used his wealth to educate his children and he positively help quite a lot of people, those who are known and not known to him. He volunteered to pay the school fees for countless number of pupils who were always sent out of schools in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Up till the time of his death, he was sponsoring an indigent girl in a polytechnic despite his lean pocket. He was a selfless giver.

Pa Adelugba loved his children. On his sick bed, his last wish is that his children should continue to love one-another, no in-fighting and should always do things together. He urged them to celebrate his passing!

Pa Adelugba is survived by two wives, Mrs. Alice Oladimeji Adelugba and Mrs. Florence Titilayo Adelugba. His third wife, Mrs. Julianah Adelugba passed on to eternity in 2004.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Mr. Francis Ilesanmi Adelugba (died in 1967) and Mr. Joseph Omojola Adelugba (died in 2009). He is survived by four brothers and a sister: Pa Benjamin Adelugba, Rtd MWO Samson Akintola Adelugba, Mrs. Julianah Aina Akomolafe, Mr. Julius Oroku Adelugba, and his sister in-law Mrs. Felicia Oluyemi Adelugba.
