Denice and I were best friends in high school. Denice was blessed with so many fortunate things in her life. Yes Denice was beautiful outside, but most of all she was beautiful inside. This makes me especially sad! My beautiful friend who always stayed true to herself and to other people,is gone but will never be forgotten! Denice was so special, never forgetting birthdays or special occasions, and always making it a point to call if she had heard that something had happened, as she did when my father died.
I had the honor of knowing Denice, the woman, and Denice the giddy high school girl. She was so funny! For the first couple years of high school we were pretty inseperable. Inseperable until I met my first husband and my thoughts all went to spending time with him. Before this though,if we had a dance or any thing special to go to in high school, she had to have something new to wear,no ifs, and,or, buts! She would take her sewing machine if she didn't have something new to wear, within an hour she would have a new outfit, to fit whatever occasion. And tan, she had to be tan, I don't know if she continued this throughout the years. But Denice would be out in March, with picnic benches or anything she could find to make a wind barricade and she would be out sunbathing. Please keep in mind this was Oregon and it's cold in March. But she wanted that tan. It was the day of the MINI Skirt and a tan was a must! From crashing into each other with our bikes and going over the handle bars, to my 16th birthday party, which I know she helped my parents with. Just all the fun things we did in the old Springfield High School! And even though we went different directions, we never lost touch. I will miss her dearly! I will miss her cheery phone calls!!! My mom and dad loved her too. Of course they didn't know that we had crawled out the bedroom window a few times. They would have still loved her though no matter what kind of mischief we could find to get into, and we did find it! She was so bubbly, cute and funny in high school and so in love with Lance. Lance this, Lance that!
But then Rick, she found you and I am so glad she did. She found true love and her soul mate. She was a woman in love and so happy. She always knew what she wanted, always, and didn't settle for less!
And Rick, I was so touched, at what you did with her ashes. Denice traveled with you to that moutain in the sky, as she traveled with you everywhere for 23 years.
Denice is in my heart and will always be in my heart. I will miss her very, very much! Someday we will join her and will hear that laugh again!
And to Rod, thank you so much for having the memorial service in Oregon. It meant so much to me personally to be able to come to that, and also my mother who know her, because she spent so much time at our house when we were in school. You did a great job and the feeling of Denice was there!
