Kenneth Shepherd, better known as "Shep"... was an only child, born in June of 1934 and died in April of 1995. He died in Paris, TX and is buried in Oakwood cemetery in Honeygrove, TX. He leaves two children, son John and daughter Shannon and special friend, Ginger Rater and friends that number so many.
His trade was in the cotton business, 'classing cotton'... traveling Texas and other states.
His love then and after retirement was his guitar, writing songs and playing and singing with all of his friends. He was a fantastic song writer. His greatest love was Hank Snow and Marty Robbins but he loved all county music. Where ever Shep was hanging out at the time, at whatever place, playing his Martin guitar....everyone got word of it and dropped by. He was a magical person, with every 'want to be' and 'could have been'....hanging out with the 'master' He had a magnetic personality.
Just before he died, he made the front page of our local paper with his talent, and had an upcoming promise of finally having recordings in Nashville, TN. of his latest song lyrics. Kenneth Shepherd was a most unique individual. He was a master at the guitar and found humor in life where no one else could. He is and will be missed so much by all of us that loved him. He was a trusted, wonderful friend. I miss him still. I miss hearing him sing. I miss his laugh. We all do. We just miss having 'old Shep' around.....you will notice from his photos that he always had a guitar or a lady on his arm.
He enjoyed life. Maybe he just enjoyed it too much. Personally, I am glad that I was a part of his life before he left us and so thankful that I taped his wonderful voice singing while I could. At least we still have that.
