Toivo will be fondly remembered for his contagious laughter, loving kindness and generous spirit. He had a wonderful love of people and was a precious gift to us all.

In his teenage years he moved to Thunder Bay, ON attended Hillcrest High School and eventually Confederation College obtaining a diploma in Hotel Management. He met his lifetime partner in marriage, love and friendship Deborah in 1974. Married in 1975, they had two children; Eric and Nicole. Toivo enjoyed family life immensely creating a warm home that welcomed family and friends. Always a prankster, his sense of humour made any situation fun. Toivo's work took the family to Columbus, Nebraska in 1987, Calgary, AB in 1988 and then led them back to Thunder Bay in 1991. Toivo and Deborah have made Vancouver their home for the last 12 years. Cooking, travelling, music, watching movies, bowling, volunteering and enjoying nature were just some of Toivo's many passions. He was an avid golfer who loved playing cards with his friends and spending hours working on his latest sports pools.

With a career in the grain industry that spanned 33 years, Toivo loved the challenge of his work and was always having fun with the people he worked with. For the last 5 years Toivo was President of the Grain Elevators and Processing Society.

The importance of deepening his faith was a cornerstone in Toivo's life. During the last few months, the presence of God was very comforting to him. Toivo felt greatly blessed by all the prayers and loving wishes that were sent his way throughout his illness.
