This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved William Almquist who was born in Dallas, Texas on 27th October 1925 and passed away on 2nd January 2013, 87 years of age.
William Edgar (Bill) Almquist, born in Dallas on October 27,1925, died of natural causes January 2, 2013. He was 87. He is survived by AnnKing, Daughters, Julie Barnes, Deanie Marrs and K White and a Son and daughterin law Bill Almquist and Dana Kincy Almquist. Left to grieve also are hisbeloved dog, Yoda, and a host of friends. He had 7 grand children and 10 greatgrand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Dallas, he attended Crozier Tech. He left school before graduation to become an anti-aircraft gunner on the USS Intrepid during WWII.
After 9/11, Crozier Techbestowed an honorary GED diploma to Bill and all the students that left school to serve their country. He returned from the war and learned the refrigeration trade at Joe Hoppe Co. Resigning From Joe Hoppe Co. in 1960, he and LIfe Longfriend, W.J. (Bill) Coe, founded Almcoe Refrigeration Company. It was at Almcoethat he forged his spot as one of the icons in the refrigeration industry being recognized as one of the true experts in grocery store refrigeration design. He raised his family in the Urban Park Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Urban Park Singer Sponser. He looked great in a red coat! He was active in many local civic organizations as well as trade groups. He enjoyed his work, family,dove hunting, fishing, tinkering around the farm and golf.
He was a master cheese dip maker. He was just fun to be around always with a joke and a quick wit. If you met Bill, you instantly liked him and he would do anything to help another in need. The newpaper could not contain all of the good things that could be said about Bill. He was many things to many people. He was Teacher, boss,partner, mentor, confidant, good neighbor, protector, provider and friend. Hewas Bill to some, WEA to some, Mr. Almquist to some and a great man to all. Restin peace D.O.D. (Dear ole Dad) Reserve a Tee time for us. We have one more round to play for eternity.
A gathering of friends will be held at Almcoe RefrigerationCompany, 4050 Cresthill Rd. Dallas on Friday January 11th 8-11am
